The Board of Trustees of the Lake Mohawk Preservation Foundation is pleased to announce the $2000.00 Lake Mohawk Preservation Foundation Scholarship recipients for the 2023-2024 school year.
Alexandra Rose Karanikas
Pope John XXIII Regional High School
Alexandra is passionate about environmental sustainability and volunteerism in our community. Her commitment, involvement, and leadership impacted Pope John’s corresponding school clubs and various New Jersey youth environmental clubs. She earned recognition for developing environmental lessons and workshops for environmental organizations, including the NJ Student Sustainability Coalition.
Alexandra will attend Cornell University to pursue her Agriculture and Environmental Studies education. ShShe aims to learn about agriculture’s connection to the environment and advance farming practices that benefit the planet, people, and the farmer.
Annika K. Noel
Sparta High School
Annika’s involvement in academic and science clubs, Ecology Club leadership, and efforts to improve local biodiversity by organizing the planting of native plants around her school and the county demonstrate her passion and commitment to the environment. She is involved in the Sparta community through attendance of board meetings and by participation in community cleanups.
Annika will be attending Rutgers University New Brunswick Honors School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (SEBS) and majoring in environmental science or biological science. She aims to become a scientist or a lawyer and leverage her education to protect the environment and ensure environmental justice.
